The TT autobox evolved from the one Nissan used in other vehicles - the Pathfinder, for example. It wasn't engineered or designed specifically for the TT engine's spec's. If you search the NTB's, you'll see that the early TT autoboxes had problems galore, and required significant mod's during the first three or so years of production. If you search the Technical Forum, you'll spot many, many examples of autoboxes failing even with stock engines. That helps to explain why most people don't even try to mod the stock autobox, and opt for some really heavy duty aftermarket units that are available. Kyle Puckett used to have the fastest Z32 auto drag car and used aftermarket boxes exclusively.
